About the Destination:
The Kareri village is a beautiful Himalayan village, lying at a distance of 40km from Dharamshala in the Kangra District of Himachal Pradesh. Kareri village leads the way to Kareri Lake, a high-altitude freshwater glacial lake situated at a height of 2950m above sea level. In Kareri village, there is another village known as Nohli village, from where the Kareri Lake trek begins. The distance of the Kareri Lake trek is 10 kilometers one way, and the trekking grade is moderate to hard.
The best time to visit Kareri Lake is from starting March to the end of June. During this period, the trek is covered with a layer of snow, and the summit is adorned with glaciers. Kareri Lake gives birth to a beautiful river known as Niyund. The midpoint of the trek is Reoti. The Kareri Lake trek further leads to one of the world’s most beautiful unexplored treks, known as the Seven Sister Lakes of Dhauladhar (a group of seven lakes together) through the well-known pass, Minkiani Pass.
The thick forest of deodar, oak, pine, and waterfalls along the way make this trek one of the most beautiful in the whole world.

descending trek to Nolhi/Kareri village. - Take some rest at kareri village than cab will
pickup to Dharamshala and Mcleodganj. - Your trek end with beautiful memories
- Trekking Shoes: You need good trekking shoes with good grip & ankle support..
- Clothing: You need to have warm clothes with three-layer jackets, fleece or down feather jacket. Carry 1 or
2 full sleeves t-shirt. For lowers carry cotton pants suitable for trek. Do no carry jeans or shorts for trekking. - Thermals: Carry top and bottom thermals if its winters.
- Socks: Carry 2 - 3 pair of sports socks along with woolen socks to be worn at night during winters.
- Headlamp/Led Torch are mandatory
- Sunglasses: To protect from sunlight in snow you require UV rays protected sunglasses.
- Woolen Cap and Gloves are also necessary as the climate will be cold. Carry waterproof gloves as they get
wet in snow. - Water bottle: Every participant should carry water bottle of their own.
- Raincoat/Ponchos: At high altitudes, snowfall and rain are quite common and it’s mandatory to carry a
poncho so that one doesn’t get wet. - Mandatory Documents:

Had an amazing experience on the Kareri Lake trek with Kareri Hikers, especially for a first-time trekker like me. The team was very professional, friendly, and took care of everything from stay and meals to guiding us safely on the trail. The route from McLeodganj to Kareri village is very scenic with forests, streams and beautiful mountain views, and the difficulty level is perfect for beginners who are reasonably fit. Our campsite near the lake was clean and comfortable, and the food was simple but very tasty, giving a homely feeling far from the city. Overall, it was a memorable trek with stunning views, good arrangements, and great hospitality – I would definitely recommend Kareri Hikers to anyone planning their Kareri Lake trek.

Absolutely awesome! Trek karti hoke mujhe feeling aayi ki mera soul trail pe bask gaya. Himachal ke pahaad ki bhoomika bahut romantic aur peaceful thi. Trek karti hue itni khush hua hun na! Pahaad ki hawa, pure forest, aur that lake – sab kuch milke ekdum magical environment bana diya. Hamara guide Rajesh toh bahut gyaani tha. Raat ko camping mein stars dekh ke mera dil bhar gaya. Food service excellent tha. Ye memories lifetime ke liye raheingii!

Last weekend kaa best decision tha Kareri Lake trek karna! Nature lover hoon main aur yeh trip literally heaven tha. McLeodganj se journey bahut scenic tha. Guides experienced the aur bahut attentive. Camping experience kaand hi nahi! Morning mein lake ke paas chai pite hue pahaad dekhe – it was pure bliss! Worth every rupee spent. Definitely ek aur baar jaaunga!
